Take the risk out of designing products which delight customers
Highly Manufacturable, attractive, and inexpensive
Costume Lighting is dedicated to using advanced software sensors, algorithms and user inputs to animate illuminated colored light as an extension of human expression.
Our use of sensors includes:
-
Accelerometers to track “G” forces.
-
Gyro sensors to accurately measure rotation.
-
Light color spectrum sensors to analyze external colors to allow our products to mimic Chameleon effects.
-
We have developed unique calibration algorithms to increase the accuracy of low cost accelerometers, allowing them to perform advanced position and movement sensing comparable to High End IMU inertial measurement units.
-
User inputs include gestures and motion tracking to allow users to change their light colors in novel ways.

CHRISTOPHER HOFFMANN
CEO and FOUNDER
Through his creative work as engineer, artist and author, Christopher Hoffmann has achieved international recognition
as a startup CEO and pioneering designer.
As an innovator, he has appeared on national TV, in documentary films and on the TEDx stage. Christopher now, turns his attention to costume lighting technology. By using Colorfly, he hopes to create more emotional connections, by igniting a new curiosity in technology, dedicated to inspiring JOY.
TIP AND TAP TECHNOLOGY
A ONE-HANDED MENU SELECTION TOOL
Tip and Tap technology is a patent pending two-part gesture applied to a piece of hardware with a motion sensor inside and on at least one face, a set of nine LED lights. It allows a user to select up to 12 menus or logic choices and then with a quick tap, select that choice.
The first part of the gesture is to illuminate a series of lights by tipping the hardware into a predefined position. Once the hardware is in position, verified by a set of lights which represents a desired choice, a tap is applied to the hardware to create a spike in acceleration to trigger the choice to be made.
To let the hardware know a choice would like to be made, and to assure false triggers are avoided, the user must hold the hardware level to the floor and still for at least half a second. This will illuminate a “ready” light at the center of the nine LED grid. Once this light is enabled, the user will tip the hardware rotationally around one of two axes of accelerometer rotation and in one of two rotational directions around that axis, clockwise or counterclockwise. This will light an edge light.
This is an important distinction as the second light indicates one of four choices, and can only be lit as a result of twisting around one of said axes. Once the second light is lit, and with both lights illuminated, a tap must be made within a one second window (or set time) or the position will be released to start over.
To reach the corner lights, the user must walk through the above steps to get an edge LED lit and then twist the hardware around a second axis 90 degrees to light a corner light (the center light will drop out). Know, that how a corner is entered (from one face or the other) two different choices can be made.

OUR SERVICES

PRODUCT & BRAND LICENSING
At Costume Lighting, we believe that personal illumination is a form of self-expression and should be treated as such. Our founders, who are passionate about both art and technology, came together to create a product that merges the two.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Our vision is to revolutionize the way people think about personal illumination by integrating technology that adapts to your movements and artistic expression. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to express themselves through personal illumination, and our technology makes that possible.

EVENT LIGHTING MANAGEMENT
Our gyro and accelerometer driven motion sensing technology is at the forefront of the industry. We use advanced signal processing and motion tracking algorithms to synchronize colors in real time with your movements. It's a truly unique experience that you have to see for yourself.
